TEN's remit includes poverty in the UK as well as the Global South, and for our September we were UK focussed.

Purple Shoots tackles poverty through enterprise in the UK. They enable overlooked and marginalized entrepreneurs to build confidence, community and income. From ex-offenders to disabled individuals, carers to single parents, they help people to discover the skills and resilience they already have and to use them to build a better future. This is done through small groups, other wrap around support and microfinance.  It is rooted in the organisation's Christian faith, a belief that God cares deeply about the poverty and injustice in society and expects His people to do something about it.

More than 700 business have been created, with a repayment rate of over 80%.

The speaker was Karen Davies, who founded Purple Shoots 12 years ago after a career which included 15 years in financial services and 10 years in small business.

It was an inspiring meeting that attracted a lot of interest and many questions. Do watch the 16 minute presentation.
