The speakers at the October Gatherings were Dorcas Apoore, a social entrepreneur and the founder of ASIGE. Raised in a rural community in Ghana’s Upper East Region, Dorcas transformed her lived experiences of poverty into purpose building pathways to opportunity not only for herself but for hundreds of women and young people across the world. Joining her was Simon Adongo Ayimbire, ASIGE’s Finance and Operations Manager.
ASIGE (Advocacy for Social Inclusion and Girls’ Education) is a pioneering social enterprise committed to tackling environmental sustainability and the economic empowerment of women and young people. With operations in both Ghana and Scotland (UK), ASIGE produces eco-friendly, handmade products including baskets, bags, and homewares using locally sourced elephant grass. These artisanal creations offer a sustainable alternative to single-use plastics, helping to reduce environmental impact while creating dignified employment opportunities for women and youth in underserved communities in Ghana.
