What an amazing day! Thank you to everyone who contributed and participated, in person and online. The recording is now available to watch and the slides can be downloaded below.
The “From Handouts to Handshakes” conference explored how faith-driven enterprise can play a transformative role in addressing poverty and economic inequality. Moving beyond traditional aid models, the day emphasized business as a force for long-term flourishing—creating wealth, dignity, and opportunity rather than simply distributing resources.
A central theme was “redemptive enterprise”: businesses intentionally designed to solve deep societal challenges while reflecting values of justice, creativity, and restoration. Speakers highlighted the importance of building sustainable ecosystems that enable micro-enterprises to grow, including access to finance, digital tools, and supply chains.
Real-world case studies demonstrated this in action—from fintech solutions empowering informal workers, to social enterprises creating jobs for marginalized communities, to agricultural training programmes significantly increasing farmers’ yields. Across these examples, a consistent message emerged: lasting impact comes through locally led initiatives, patient investment, and strong, trust-based relationships rather than short-term interventions.
The conference also explored practical tools, including the role of AI in supporting enterprise development, alongside innovative funding models designed to support early-stage businesses in underserved regions.
Ultimately, the day challenged participants to move further towards active engagement—building meaningful partnerships, taking bold steps, and using business as a vehicle for holistic transformation.
